Several different perspectives on the loss of IRS emails

Here’s how the IRS lost emails from key witness Lois Lerner

By Philip BumpJune 16

On Friday, the Internal Revenue Service informed Congressional investigators that it could not recover two years of emails from Lois Lerner, the former head of the agency's tax-exempt status department. Lerner has been at the center of the investigation into how and why the IRS applied additional scrutiny to the tax-exempt applications of Tea Party-affiliated organizations.

Lerner has refused to testify on the subject, meaning that her emails are one of the only records of what happened in her own words. The IRS has 67,000 emails from or to Lerner that it has or will turn over to investigators, but a large number, from 2009 to 2011, are apparently lost -- a disappearance that quickly triggered skepticism ……

IRS “Lost” More Emails – Obama Administration Thinks You Won’t Notice the Cover-Up

By: Matthew Clark (Diary)  |  June 17th, 2014 at 01:41 PM  |

After revealing in a Friday news dump that it “lost” former top IRS official Lois Lerner’s emails, the IRS now says that it has “lost” emails from at least six more IRS officials.

What’s next, not being able to produce any more emails related to the targeting?

Unbelievable doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Is the IRS literally dumping documents out the back door?

How could an agency that relies almost exclusively on the American people keeping good records to operate suddenly be at a loss for keeping records?  But that’s not the half of it.  It’s not that the IRS can’t keep records; it’s that it somehow just can’t seem to find records related to the targeting of conservatives that have been requested/subpoenaed by Congress.

The IRS claims that it stores voluminous amounts of email, yet just the important ones from what may be the largest IRS scandal in history seem to disappear.  In a letter last week to Congress, the IRS proclaimed: ……

IRS Has Lost More E-mails . . .

By Eliana Johnson

It’s not just Lois Lerner’s e-mails. The Internal Revenue Service says it can’t produce e-mails from six more employees involved in the targeting of conservative groups, according to two Republicans investigating the scandal.

The IRS recently informed Ways and Means chairman Dave Camp and subcommittee chairman Charles Boustany that computer crashes resulted in additional lost e-mails, including from Nikole Flax, the chief of staff to former IRS commissioner Steven Miller, who was fired in the wake of the targeting scandal.

The revelation about Lerner’s e-mails rekindled the targeting scandal and today’s news has further inflamed Republicans. Camp and Boustany are now demanding ……

Judicial Watch Smoking Gun Busts Open IRS Scandal, Again

The news just keeps going from bad to worse for President Obama and disgraced former IRS Director of Exempt Organizations Lois Lerner, thanks in large part to Judicial Watch’s investigative work.

JW has been instrumental in uncovering evidence of Lerner’s role in the IRS “Tea Party” scandal, obtaining records even Congress could not get – documents proving the nation’s tax collecting agency attempted to silence conservative organizations through abusive practices.

And these discoveries led the Congress to push for more accountability.

On Wednesday, May 7, 2014, the House of Representatives voted 231-187 to hold Lerner in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify about the agency’s targeting of Tea Party groups. Moments after the contempt vote – and arguably more importantly – the House passed a separate resolution asking the Department of Justice (DOJ) to appoint a special counsel to probe the IRS over the scandal by a vote of 250-168, with 26 Democrats joining Republicans.

And previously, on April 9, 2014, the House Ways and Means Committee voted to refer Lerner to the DOJ for criminal prosecution for alleged actions relating to the IRS’s targeting scandal.

And now this, as reported by Townhall.com’s Katie Pavlich: ……
